D2 is typically bought to meet chemistry requirements rather than physical requirements. For that reason, physical properties are generally not provided unless requested prior to production. Any material can be sent to a third party after production to be tested for physical properties.

What is D2 Flat Ground Stock?

D2 FG stk (Flat Ground Stock) is Flat Bar Stock of D2 Grade Tool Steel that has been precision machined to tight tolerances. Pieces typically come in 36" lengths. Buying precision ground stock can eliminate costly and time consuming up front processes as the pieces arrive ready to be machined.
an air-hardening, high carbon, high chromium tool steel. It is a very deep hardening steel and will be practically free from size change after proper treatment. The high percentage of chromium gives it mild corrosion-resisting properties in the hardened condition. It has low machinability and grindability, with a medium resistance to decarburization. It is a good choice when extremely high wear resistance is required.

D2 tool steel is also available in precision milled Super Square, which can be 2, 4, or 6 side precision milled. It is milled to customer tolerances and delivered quickly for your convenience. Alro Steel is also able to grind tool steel with a rotary grinding machine for a fast turnaround, with reciprocal grinding for an even smoother finish.
