1144 Modified Free Machining Plate High Carbon

There are two families of free-machining (also called FM) plate steels available; each offers different benefits. The C1119® and C1144® steels have higher sulfur levels and will machine faster and provide better tool life. Clean-Cut® steels have somewhat lower sulfur levels, resulting in better internal soundness in thicker plates, and also providing for improved surface finish.

In each family, there is one type of low carbon steel and one type of medium carbon steel. The medium carbon varieties provide higher strength and hardness and can be easily flame hardened.

About 1144 Modified Free Machining High Carbon

Alro stocks 1144 Modified Free Machining high carbon steel plate. This plate offers high strength and hardness and is ideal for applications where resistance to deformation and wear are essential. 1144 plate may be flame hardened to further enhance surface properties. It is frequently used as an economical replacement for more expensive quenched-and-tempered alloy grades.
